چکیده

We described here the way of production of ≤ 100 fs bursts of X and gamma radiation by Compton backscattering of a laser bunch which have been swept along the electron trajectory. In the method described the time duration of the secondary radiation does not depend on electron bunch length and is shorter than duration of the primary laser bunch by factor 1/ –the number of resolved spots of sweeping device (~1/ 100). The method of the laser bunch sweeping is also helpful in obtaining short electron bunches from a photo cathode. R N

Attosecond Gamma-Ray Pulses via Nonlinear Compton Scattering in the Radiation-Dominated Regime.

The feasibility of the generation of bright ultrashort gamma-ray pulses is demonstrated in the interaction of a relativistic electron bunch with a counterpropagating tightly focused superstrong laser beam in the radiation-dominated regime. The Compton scattering spectra of gamma radiation are investigated using a semiclassical description for the electron dynamics in the laser field and a quant...

X-ray Pulse Duration Control in the LCLS

X-ray pulse duration control is critical to exploring the ultra-fast science at an x-ray freeelectron laser (FEL) facility such as the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). The pulse length of a typical electron bunch that drives a self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) FEL is limited to the order of 100~200 fs, due to short-bunch collective interactions. Many novel schemes have been proposed...

Generation of attosecond x-ray and gamma-ray via Compton backscattering.

The generation of an isolated attosecond gamma-ray pulse utilizing Compton backscattering of a relativistic electron bunch has been investigated. The energy of the electron bunch is modulated while the electron bunch interacts with a co-propagating few-cycle CEP (carrier envelope phase)-locked laser in a single-period wiggler. The energy-modulated electron bunch interacts with a counter-propaga...

Correlations of Prompt and Afterglow Emission in Swift Long and Short Gamma Ray Bursts

Correlation studies of prompt and afterglow emissions from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) between different spectral bands has been difficult to do in the past because few bursts had comprehensive and intercomparable afterglow measurements. In this paper1 we present a large and uniform data set for correlation analysis based on bursts detected by the Swift mission. For the first time, short and long b...

Optical and Long Wavelength Afterglow from Gamma-ray Bursts

We discuss the evolution of cosmological gamma-ray burst remnants, consisting of the cooling and expanding fireball ejecta together with any swept-up external matter, after the gamma-ray event. We show that significant optical emission is predicted which should be measurable for timescales of hours after the event, and in some cases radio emission may be expected days to weeks after the event. ...
